'As we added a mobile app to our program, we quickly attracted a broader audience to the already successful program,' said Chris Ray, Vice President of Information Technology at Taco. Get hopped up for beer? Join our Brewniversity program to take your beer knowledge to the next level. Earn credits and rewards just for exploring delicious, rare and unique beers from all over the world. Who knew that drinking beer could help you earn a degree?
A trip to Atlanta means seeing friends, playing golf and visiting my old stomping grounds, but more important than all that, it means a trip to Taco Mac for some beer.
According to my Taco Mac Brewniversity app, which Spin will deny he’s ever heard of, my last beer at Taco Mac was Dec. 6, 2012. After this weekend, I am up to 88 different beers, still 37 short of reaching 125 beers, thereby earning bachelor’s degree level, a T-shirt, mug and my name on the Taco Mac Bachelor’s Plaque.
So without further ago, here are the five newest members of Brian’s Brewniverity list.
My former co-worker and Taco Mac dining partner Kristen will be happy to know that Full Sail comes from Oregon, home of her beloved ducks.
I love amber beers, with Abita Amber still ranking as my personal No. 1, and Full Sail was really enjoyable. It had a good taste without being too overpowering. Fully close app mac. In fact, I thought its taste could have been a bit stronger, but it’s still worth a try.
For a first beer of the night, I enjoyed it.
Heavy Seas Cutlass Amber
Another amber. Another delicious beer.
Heavy Seas originates from Baltimore, and the Cutlass Amber is its most award-winning beer, according to its website. The lager took gold, silver, and bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival from 2006 to 2010. In 2012, Cutlass Amber won a silver medal at the World Beer Cup in the Vienna Lager category.
This is Heavy Seas second best-selling beer, and it’s easy to see why. Nice taste, slight sweetness and smooth finish make it a nice amber that’s easy to drink. And considering this was my second beer before my wings arrived, it’s also nice to not get full before I eat actual food.
Shiner Ruby Redbird
I love Shiner beers. https://cleverresort901.weebly.com/blog/how-to-install-apps-on-mac-from-unidentified-developer. Shiner Bock is in my top 5, and I’ve had Ruby Redbird before in a bottle and liked it. I don’t know f the tap was bad or what, but this beer was not good at all.
Ruby Redbird is Shiner’s summer beer, featuring a taste of red grapefruit and ginger. It’s meant to be sweet, tart and crisp, and it was in the bottle, but the draft was anything but. Instead it left a nasty aftertaste that I could not get rid of without buffalo wings and water — not something you want out of your beer.
Still, I’m not going to give up on it. I enjoy summer beers a lot, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this was just a case of a bad apple (or in this case, grapefruit).
Highland Little Hump
At this point in the evening, I’m feeling the beer, so I wanted something that wouldn’t kill me the next day. I also really enjoyed the name Little Hump.
At 4.5% ABV, this is a light pale ale that is supposed to have a lot of flavor and hop. To be honest, I didn’t taste much. Maybe it was because it was the fourth beer in 2 hours, but I don’t really remember much of it.
Sure, some of that is my fault, but a beer should also leave an impression, no matter how many you’ve previously had to drink. I’m sure it’s better than I’m remembering, but I was unimpressed.
Fox Barrel Pacific Pear Cider
If it’s a cider on my Brewniversity card, it belongs to my wife, Katie. Still, it’s on my card so I’m counting it.
Pacific Pear is a gluten-free, naturally fermented cider using 100 percent pear juice and not just pear concentrate or pear-flavored apple cider. Fox Barrel’s website also boasts that it adds no extra sugar, preservatives, malt or other alcohols to it.
It’s a dessert cider that Katie got before she ate, but she enjoyed it. Plus the logo is pretty damn cool.
88 down, 37 to go … Until next time, Taco Mac.

Styles are one of the beer style we talk about in the Beer Knowledge section of the app. Find it the menu.
Origin is either a 3 letter airport-style code of the country of origin or a 2 letter US state postal abbreviation. In some cases a beer may be brewed in two or more states, those cases are rendered with a slash between states (e.g. CA/NC). See some of the Sierra Nevada beers as an example.
Anatomy of Beer Detail Screen
The Beer Details screen shows many of the same features as the beer list item, but includesa description and buttons to share the beer, add it to or remove it from your fridge, andsee what locations offer this beer.

FAQ
- I just created my account and my history is empty, what gives?Once completing the sign-up, it can take around 20 minutes for your history to be imported into the system.
- Why isn't the beer I just ordered showing in my history?Beers will show up about an hour after your check closes.
- At what level do you begin mailing out rewards? We begin mailing out rewards once you hit your Brewniversity Bachelors (125). Your Pledge Tee is redeemable at the store level at the time that you hit (13) beers. When you hit a bonus level (75, 175, 275, & 425), the value you acquire at that level will be directly applied to your Brewniversity card at the time that you hit that benchmark. The value can be redeemed during your following visit to Taco Mac.
- When will I receive my rewards? We place an order for rewards every 2 weeks. Once the order is placed, the items will ship from our warehouse to the address in your profile approximately 7 business days later.
- When will my nameplate be displayed at my home store?Nameplates are ordered once a month during the first week of each month for those that hit Bachelor’s level during the previous month. Once produced, they will be sent directly to the store where the store managers will either display the nameplate on the Bachelor plaque, or move existing nameplates to the next Plaque Level.
- What do I do if I think there are beers missing from my account?
- First and foremost, please be sure that at every visit to Taco Mac, you are collecting your Brewniversity voucher at the time that you close out your check. The voucher will show you how many credits were applied to your account during that visit. If something appears incorrect, please bring it to the attention of a manager, and they will be able to resolve the problem then and there.
- Please allow 24 hours for both the beers to show up in your list online, and your total number of credits to update.
- Please understand that only six beers will count towards your Brewniversity Account in any one day. If you consume more than 6 beers during a visit, only the first 6 will show up on your account.
- Please understand that if you close your check and re-open for any reason (table transfer, new server) that your card must be swiped again, for your beers to be applied to your account.
- Sign out of the app and sign back in. Signing out will clear the app's data cache.
- If you have checked all of the above off of your list, and you still feel there was an error made to your account, please email us at [email protected] with your full card number, date & location of the error, and the missing beers, and we will investigate further.
- I was recently on vacation and tried some awesome beer that I wish Taco Mac had… How can we make this happen?By law, beer retailers are required to buy beer from licensed distributors in their geographic region. What does that mean? It means that we cannot buy beer directly from the manufacturer or from distributors outside of our area. Alcohol is a controlled substance, so the laws are very strict regarding its sale and distribution. So when building and maintaining our inventories, there are only certain beers available to us.There are many beers that are not sold in this area for many reasons. Some of the breweries are quite small. Some of them are very far away. Some are already operating at capacity with their current markets. Brewery expansion is quite costly, so taking on new markets is not always in the interest of some companies. In addition, these companies need to look at long-term, sustainable sales in a new market to justify the costs associated with expansion and getting licensed in that state. Strength of sales is also extremely important because beer is perishable. Sending a small amount of beer to a market to ensure freshness is not a good idea either based on freight costs. Long story short, the beer business is a lot more complicated than most people think. We can encourage these brewers to come to our region by telling them about what we do and the many loyal beer drinkers we have as guests (i.e. you), but that is about it. As strong a beer retailer as Taco Mac is, we are part of a larger picture in the eyes of a brewing company. But if you keep drinking them, they will keep coming. So keep up the good work!
